Can I install Sound-Stop 5 on steel and timber stud frames?. A resilient channel as a minimum should be used on the underside of the joists so the plasterboard is decoupled from the ceiling. Then use SuperGrip Tape to hold the join. You can use Fuller Fire Sound Acoustic Sealant to seal the join.
What happens if I rip the material when installing?. For best performance and ease of use, we advise purchasing 1 roll of Super-grip Tape, 3 tubes of Fuller Fire Sound Acoustic Sealant for every 4 rolls of Sound-Stop 5 (as aforementioned). While it’s a great DIY solution, mass loaded vinyl roll is very heavy. SS5 can reduce even low-frequency noise as you attach it to a stud frame. It is a limp-mass material made of high-temperature fused vinyl with no barium. The polymer vibrates and turns acoustic energy into small amounts of heat energy. If you’re looking for something inexpensive yet approved by professionals, this is it. Soundproofing using paint, curtains or old mattresses doesn’t work either. It will simply change the reflected sound waves at best. Egg cartons to soundproof a room, for instance? Nope, that doesn’t work. Most online DIY instructions offer questionable advice.
